The Avengers tried valiantly to stop the Chitauri army from taking over the world, but it was simply too much. Iron Man. Captain America. Thor. Hulk. S.H.I.E.L.D. They all fell in battle. Loki was successful in establishing New York as his stronghold to take over the rest of Midgard.
